How To Lower Your Golf Handicap Rapidly

Learning how to improve at golf can be a great challenge. The bottom line is that regular practice and commitment are important. However the quality of your practice is also a key factor in determining how fast you improve. The first step is to decide where you currently stand as a golfer and what are your strengths and weaknesses.

After taking a close look at your game, if you find that you three putt too many times during a round, then you need to pay more attention to your putting. If you find that you are missing most fairways then you need to pay more attention to your long game. If you find that your wedges and chipping around the green is not getting the ball up and down most of the time then you need to spend more time on shots around the green.

For most amateurs, there is room for improvement in almost all areas of their game. Also, it is best to always consider every element of your game during your practice routines regardless of how good you feel you are at it. Make sure that you are paying close attention to the short game as it can make the biggest difference in reducing your golf handicap.

Remember that if you are solid at the short game then this will have a cascading effect at improving your overall ball striking too. Thus being sharp around the greens will make you a more confident ball striker which will translate to longer and straighter shots that hit more fairways and greens in regulation. The first element of golf you want to master is putting.

Some key putting tips to remember is to keep your eyes directly over the ball. This usually means that you will need to stand pretty close to the ball with the positioning of the ball slightly towards your left foot. Also keep your head still throughout the putting stroke both on the back swing and follow through. You also want to have a slight flex in your knees and your feet should be slightly less than shoulder width apart, although if you are very tall you may want a stance that is up to shoulder width for increased stability.

Remember to pick a small target when putting and simply look and react when you are out there on the course. Also focus on practicing on short putts as they are the foundation of great putting. An often overlooked aspect of golf by most amateurs is course management. When you are on the course you want to only play high percentage shots.

This means that you want to hit shots that you feel extremely confident you can actually pull off. Do not let your ego get in the way and try to match what your playing partners are doing. Focus on playing the course and not the other players in your group. This way you will produce the best scores you are capable of making on that day.

Also remember to swing in a controlled and balanced manner. Relax and let the club do the work and do not try to muscle the club thinking that putting more energy will translate to better shots. Focus on building effortless power and accuracy. Golf requires great precision so being in control of your swing is critical in order to play this game well on any course in any conditions.
